About Conference

12th ABCI Conference is 360º Thinking in ELT

About event

Welcome to Foz do Iguaçu, location of one of the greatest natural wonders on the planet – Iguaçu Falls. The falls cannot fail to inspire any that see them. The city is also at the triple frontier of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, countries of differing cultures and traditions, yet with strong ties.

It’s appropriate, therefore, that the theme of the 12th ABCI Conference is 360º Thinking in ELT. Just as when you stand at the obelisk giving views of all three countries at the same time, today we need to see the world of English language teaching as a 360º space. Here we need to take into account the factors both inside and outside the classroom. No longer can we be content with delivering the best English lessons in Brazil. We must see beyond the border of the classroom into the broader contexts of our students’ lives. We must travel across the barriers of the institution in creating products and conditions which match the realities of modern life. We must create free passage between the closed silos of our schools and create a holistic whole in which everyone knows their role, and is prepared to go that extra mile to make the student experience a positive, illuminating one.

We are sure that inspiration awaits, and that your vision will be enhanced at the 12th ABCI Conference!
